Awesome Foundation Oahu is thrilled to announce our March 2017 recipient of $1,000 to Adaptive Freedom Foundation!  Adaptive Freedom Foundation is a nonprofit based in HI who builds Versatility Boards, standup paddle (SUP) boards adapted to secure a wheelchair, and holds paddle days. Paddle days are free and open to the public. A typical paddle day has five people and they have had as few as two and as many as 38. Adaptive Freedom Foundation provides hope and fun by giving people with disabilities or limitations, who previously couldn't get out on a SUP the opportunity to do so.

Currently, they are operating on Oahu and plan on growing onto the outer islands and California. They have paddled with Shriners Children's Hospital and Make a Wish HI and will be paddling quarterly with Shriners HI. Their belief is that if they can get a wheelchair out on the water, there's nothing they can't do! They (and we do, too) believe this opens the minds of the paddlers to other possibilities! The ocean has such healing powers and there is such a peace about paddling across the water. We can't help but want to share it!

All of that sounds wonderful but it all costs.  Adaptive Freedom Foundation is in need of money to help fund their paddle days. They are in need of a better way to transport their boards to the beach as well as tents and chairs for their participants. They are also in need of more paddles for their paddlers. Moreover, they would like to buy a water camera or gopro allowing their paddlers great pictures to remember their special day.

Now here is the Awesome part, with the check for $1,000 paddle days can continue with the purchase of the much needed supplies.  Adaptive Freedom Foundation puts smiles on faces and hope in hearts! We think that's kinda awesome!
