Ko’olau Mountains Watershed Partnership (KMWP) is the proud recipient of Awesome Foundation’s $1000 check for July 2014.  KMWP formed in 1999 when an alliance of public and private landowners agreed to facilitate conservati0n of the Ko’olaus’ watershed forests.  The partnership area includes most of the Ko’olau Range at just over 100,000 acres. Field work and coordination are presently performed by a staff of eight.  Though small, KMWP performs a critical mission in allowing continuity of management that supports the control of invasive species and the restoration of native forest areas.

KMWP’s awesome idea is to develop a hands-on community outreach program so that residents and visitors, but most importantly youth/students, recognize and appreciate our native forests. People will only understand the difference between a weedy, unhealthy forest and a diverse, water generating forest when they get out and see both types firsthand.  Work that is being done through volunteers will significantly contribute to the forest conservation and restoration.

Awesome’s $1000 check will go towards Kahtoola microspikes for volunteers to wear in steep work areas-8 pairs, and fuel for their staff to drive to volunteer work sites.

Awesome Foundation Oahu is thrilled to be helping conserve our beautiful aina.  Mahalo KMWP for all you do.
